Attached (Notice New Magistrate Judge) please find the public notice for the appointment of a new Magistrate
Judge in Binghamton, New York. In accordance with the appointment guidelines, the public notice of the appointment
announcement will be published in the newspapers within the Northern District. The notice has
also been posted at each courthouse in the Northern District and on our external website.

PUBLIC NOTICE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF MAGISTRATE JUDGE
The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full time United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of New York at Binghamton, New York. The duties of the position are demanding and wide-ranging: (l) presiding over most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor and petty
offense cases; (3) presiding over various civil and criminal pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from the judges of the district court; and (4) trial and disposition of
civil cases upon consent of the litigants. The basic authority of a United States Magistrate Judge is specified in 28 U.S.C. §636……
