“Virtual” Law Day 2020
WHAT: This year, amid the COVID-pandemic, the New York State court system is partnering with the State’s Attorney General’s Office and Bar Association to present an online Law Day program. Speakers will include Hon. Janet DiFiore, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and the State of New York; New York State Attorney General Letitia James; and New York State Bar Association President Henry “Hank” Greenberg.
In keeping with an annual Law Day tradition, this year’s ceremony will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Senior Court Clerk Regan Williams of New York City Criminal Court in Lower Manhattan; followed by the national anthem, sung by Sergeant Jessica Hernandez of Bronx County Supreme Court-Criminal Term and performed in front of the majestic New York County Supreme Courthouse in Lower Manhattan.
Also in keeping with tradition, this Law Day the court system will recognize the notable contributions of its workforce over the past year, paying special tribute to the Judges, Court Clerks, Court Officers, Technology and other staff throughout the State who worked tirelessly to keep the courts up and running under such challenging circumstances. Thanks to their leadership, ingenuity and hard work, court operations have been reimagined, enabling the court system to continue to carry out its vital mission in this time of great need.
